Minutes of Cheverly (Maryland) Tree Commission, April 27, 2010
The Cheverly Tree Commission convened in Committee Room 2 of the Cheverly Community Center, 6401 Forest Road, Cheverly, MD, at 7:35 PM, with commissioners Nathan McElroy and Michael Giese in attendance.
As preface to the formal meeting, McElroy discussed his recent visit to the William S. Schmidt Outdoor Education Center, Brandywine, MD, with view to possibilities for outreach for Cheverly Tree Commission.
McElroy summarized his meeting with Public Works Director Juan Torres about the spring tree planting program on both private and public spaces within Cheverly. Thirty-seven single tree plantings planned for private space, with plantings done by contractor. McElroy noted that public space plantings consisted mainly of cherry and dogwood, with more plantings in pairs, and plantings done by Public Works.
McElroy proposed ash borer treatments to protect the best ash trees within Town, alleviating potential removal costs. With support of Giese, McElroy agreed to present this idea to Public Works.
In final portion of meeting, McElroy and Giese reviewed and tailored a tree inventory template for use of Cheverly Tree Commission.
Meeting adjourned at 8:45 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael Giese, commissioner
